The City of Ada is proud to announce the Ada Fire Department has achieved a Class 2 PPC (Public Protection Classification) from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). ISO collects and evaluates information from communities across the United States based on their structure fire suppression capabilities. This data is analyzed using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule. After that, a Public Protection Classification (PPC) is assigned to that community. Fire Departments are evaluated every five years. The Ada Fire Department (AFD) is always working to improve. In 2013, the AFD was classified at a 4, in 2017 the AFD received a classification of 3. Recently, the department was notified they had achieved the classification of 2. This classification puts the AFD in the top 3% across the nation. Some of the grading criteria is as follows: * Needed fire flows ? representative building locations used to determine the amount of water necessary for fire suppression activities. * Emergency communications ? including emergency reporting, telecommunications, and dispatching systems. * Fire Department - including equipment, staffing, training, geographic distribution of fire companies, operational considerations, and community risk reduction. * Water Supply ? including inspection and flowing of hydrants, alternative water supplies, and careful evaluation of the amount of available water compared with the amount of water needed to suppress fires up to 5,500 gallons per minute (GPM). ?I am extremely proud of our department and the amount of work the firefighters accomplished to make this classification possible,? stated Fire Chief Rob Johnson. ?This ISO rating is a cumulative effort between the City Council, City Administration, Utilities Department, and Central Dispatch.
